In the Store: Downton Abbey shawl

Romance meets sophistication in this charming, hand-painted Blue-faced Leicester wool and tweed, Downton Abbey shawl. Knit in the Dowager Duchess’ favorite colors, this lovely tan, golden brown and light plum colored shawl is just the ticket for those cool evenings on the terrace, or a carriage ride into town. Bundle-up, buckle-up and be prepared to be stopped by strangers admiring this work of art. Even the Duchess herself would approve!

Notes on project:

I love how this shawl turned out. Because the Alberta shawl pattern lends itself to the use of multi-colored yarns, this came out wonderful. The way the two yarns interplay with each other is wonderful; the hand-painted yarn having the same hues as the brown tweed, but just a shade lighter. The lace stitching lends a romantic impression to the shawl, where the tweed definitely speaks to a sophisticated look. The combination just works! For some reason my camera wants to create more contrast between the colors than there really is, even though I’ve adjusted the final photographs. Sometimes it tough to capture a yarn on camera. This is one of those times.

I did more modifications to the pattern this time around. I increased the wavy ripples by two sections, and then modified the edge to finish off with the Haruni pattern edge. I just like how that looks. I’m not sure I’ll ever do this pattern in its entirety. Sometimes you just have to go where the yarn tells you to go.
