Sugar Plum Fairies shawl

Sugar Plum Fairies shawl.

Nothing says whimsies like Sugar Plum Fairies and this Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies shawl is exactly that. A representation of all that is sweet and delightfully delicious about The Nutcracker ballet. From its fanciful Sugar Plum variegated gradient yarn and beadwork, to the lace underskirt “tutu”, this shawl exudes the whimsical fantasy of the ballet it was named for.

Notes on Project

Love how this project turned out. I used Nim Teasdale’s Solitude Begets Whimsies pattern and gradient yarn that I dyed myself. The pattern itself was beautiful but since I had so little yarn, I wanted to extend the size but didn’t want to just knit in a stripe of different color. I decided to create a layered feel, using a lace under lay of patterning. I love the look it created.

Color: Blue to purple gradient, natural winter white lace underskirt.
Size: One size,  Measures 54″ wide by 25″ long.
Material: 50% Blue-faced Leicester wool, 50% silk yarn
Gently hand wash – Lay flat or dry clean.
