Thistles at Sunrise cowl.

Beautiful reds, oranges and warm yellows surround this Thistles at Sunrise cowl. Hand-knit in a beautiful merino and silk yarn, this cowl is specifically gradient dyed to marble the color throughout. Wear it to dress up your favorite jeans and t-shirt, or pair it with a business suit. Whatever your choice, this cowl is sure to spice up your ensemble.

Notes on project:

What a fun experiment in both pattern adapting and dyeing! The pattern is the Scottish Thistles shawl made into cowl format. I knit the repeat sections on a 144 stitch count, using only charts A, D, E, and F. I didn’t think I’d have enough yarn to do the full run of charts. Next time I’ll use more yarn and try it with all of the charts. It was an easy knit in the round. More so for me, than knitting on circs.  I love how it turned out and it’s perfect for a lightweight cowl. The dye technique was an attempt to speckle, but it turned out more of a marbling look. Really love the marbling. Funny how sometimes unexpected flops in one area turn into a pretty cool effect in another.

Color: Gradient red to oranges to warm yellow with veins of purple.
Size: One size (S – XL). Measures 24″ circumference by 15″ long.
Material: 50% extra fine Merino, 50% silk.
