Manos Aeolian shawl

I knit this Aeolian shawl for a lovely young lady as a gift and her dad helped pick out the color. He kept stressing that she loved blacks and neutral colors so we finally decided on Manos del Uruguay Lace yarn in the color Orla. This yarn is so soft and silky I loved working with it. The only drawback was the dark color. Definitely tough to knit in the evening light.

I chose the Aeolian pattern because it had a more sophisticated look for a young woman. For some reason though, I assumed she was tall and it ended up being a much larger shawl than necessary. I’m not certain if she ever wore it, my guess is it would have made a better blanket than a shawl for her. I keep thinking to tell her if she’d like to exchange it for another color, I’d be happy to but there’s that awkward moment of having to admit you don’t care for a gift. Me, I’d rather make something someone loves.
