Kahlua Swirls cowl

Kahlua Swirls cowl.

Warm and cozy, this rich coffee-colored hand-knit lace cowl is a lovely accessory to dress-up any blouse or outfit. Knit in super-soft merino wool and Tussah silk, this cowl adds a touch of warmth on a cold winter’s day.

I adapted the Jaali pattern to make this cowl, using each of the charts and knitting in the round. It was actually easier knitting this than a regular shawl with this pattern. The yarn was left over from the Bronze Blooming Stitches shawl I’d knit earlier this year and it seems a little faded even though I stored it in a drawer out of the light. I decided to try give it a coffee dye bath after knitting, to bump up the brown color and I’m delighted with the results. It’s a gorgeous brown and the silk gives it a metallic sheen. This was my first time doing a microwave dye bath and I found it to be very easy to do. It’s a great way to change left-over yarn when you already have too much of the same color.

Color: bronze, brown, coffee.
Size: One size (S – XL). Measures 22″ circumference by 15″ long.
50% Merino wool, 50% Tussah silk
Hand wash – lay flat or dry clean.
