Stunning Merlot-colored Birds of Paradise flowers dance across this tropical-inspired, hand-knit, lace shawl. Knit in the natural fibers of Merino wool and bamboo, its rich Merlot color and breezy, tropical lace pattern design, summon you to an island paradise.
This pattern is design by Aino Haikala and a first time knit for me. The pattern was easy to follow and knit up fairly quick, with only a few rows in the Birds chart that had more complicated stitches on the wrong-side rows. Since I’m getting better reading charts right to left, these types of shawls are much easier for me now.
I ended up re-dying this yarn to a pretty Merlot color. As much as I loved this shawl in a red-orange shade, the customers weren’t very interested in wearing it, and I needed to make it sell-able. Merlot is a color that more people can wear so I think this will help find it a home. I’m still not a big fan of Bamboo yarn, but it’s much easier to work with as a Merino blend.
