I finished Fiona’s birthday shawl today and it turned out gorgeous. The Italian Sunset shawl is knit in a scrumptious Merino wool from an Etsy store based in Italy. When I saw the photo in the shop, I knew this would make a beautiful shawl for a redhead. And who better than my favorite redhead to make it for. I even found the perfect beads to go with it and Fiona decided that the Fiori di Sole pattern was what she wanted it knit in. Perfect choices all around.
The yarn was wonderful to knit with. Merino wool is the perfect all-round yarn for lace shawls. I wouldn’t have turned it away if it had silk in the mix, but the colors were so wonderful that I’m not missing the sheen at all. The beads give it the extra sparkle and really, that’s all it needs. This was my third time knitting the Fiori pattern and it was actually a breeze. Except that I messed up and somehow got the spine of the shawl crooked. Since I didn’t actually want a Scoliosis shawl, I frogged back to the error and re-knit the lower lace petals, beads and all. It was worth it to do it right. This shawl is so gorgeous that my photos don’t even do it justice. I know Fiona will get tons of compliments when she wears it.
