Who would be a mermaid fair,
Singing alone, combing her hair
Under the sea, in a golden curl
With a comb of pearl,
On a throne?
~Alfred, Lord Tennyson
Inspired by the sea itself, this Seaside Siren shawl surrounds you in the warmth of a sand-to-teal gradient Merino and silk yarn. Silky soft waves cascade down to a scalloped-shell pattern, beckoning all who hear its siren song to drown in its luxury.
Notes on project:
Finally, a shawl for me. I had Moonlight Yarns custom dye a beautiful sea-to-sand gradient yarn in Merino and silk, for my Seaside Siren shawl and it couldn’t be more gorgeous. There were a lot of tails to weave in since blending was necessary, but it was well worth the effort. I just love what Helen did with the color and it’s perfect for this pattern.
The Mermaid’s Tale shawl is a complicated pattern designed for experienced knitters, but so much fun to knit. The variety of stitches and wrong/right side lace stitching keeps you on your toes, but you’re never bored knitting it. I thoroughly enjoyed this challenging project. I can’t wait to be able to wear it. Must make dinner-out plans.
